Three-Way Tie Atop Standings After Sunday's Action

As the 2008-09 conference season nears the proverbial turn, we have a three-way tie at the top of the standings after Sunday's action.

Vermont, which dropped its first two league contests, has run off five straight after today's 72-56 win over New Hampshire to join that group. Sophomore Evan Fjeld posted a career-high 18 points off the bench and hit all 7 of his field goal attempts for the Catamounts. Mike Trimboli added 14 points, 8 boards and 4 assists. Alvin Abreu poured in a game-high 19 for the Wildcats.

Boston University is among that trio after posting its fourth straight win. The Terriers fought back from an 18-point deficit to stop Maine's two-game win streak with a 73-62 win. Freshman Jake O'Brien scored a career-high 24 points and junior Corey Lowe had 15 points and a career-high 9 assists. Mark Socoby paced the Black Bears with 15 points, while Kaimondre Owes contributed 15 off the bench.

Demetrius Young matched his career high with 21 points to lead Stony Brook to a 72-63 win over Hartford. Young did not miss a shot, shooting 6-of-6 from the floor and converting all 8 of his free throw attempts. Freshman Bryan Dougher also had 21 and hit 5 three-pointers for the Seawolves, who have won consecutive America East games for the first time since February 21 and 24, 2005. Jaret von Rosenberg scored 21 for the Hawks.

Tim Ambrose eclipsed his previous career high with 26 points to help Albany snap its two game slide with an 80-71 win over UMBC. Will Harris added 20 for the Great Danes, who had dropped AE contests to Maine and Stony Brook. Freshman Chauncey Gilliam, who has reached double figures in 4 straight games, provided a team-high 18 for UMBC, while Jay Greene added 16 and 5 assists.
