Struggling Squads Turn it Around Saturday

The unpredictable start to the conference season continued Saturday as teams that were a combined 4-9 in America East coming into today all posted wins.

Boston University, losers in 6 of its last 7 contests, won a huge one on road, knocking off on Binghamton, which came into the day tied atop the standings, 81-64 at the Events Center. John Holland continued his torrid play with 28 points, including 5 staight 3-pointers to begin the second half and help the Terriers stretch their advantage from 4 at the half to 24 with 7:15 to go. Tabbed the America East Co-Player of the Week Monday, Holland is averaging a league-best 24.3 points per game in conference play. Corey Lowe added 16 and shot 5-of-9 overall and 4-of-6 from 3-point territory. Moussa Camara had a season-high 13 off the bench for Binghamton, which has dropped 3 straight after running off 6 consecutive wins.

Vermont was the other America East team to post a road win Saturday. The Catamounts knocked off Stony Brook 83-72 in a game televised on MSG. Marqus Blakely scored a game-high 20 points, including the 1,000th of his career, to lead 5 Cats in twin figures. Mike Trimboli and Joey Accaoui each had 15, while Nick Vier contributed 13 and Maurice Joseph added 12. Chris Martin had a team-high 17 for the Seawolves, who were able to trim an 18 point second half deficit to 2, but could get no further.

Maine earned just its second win in its last nine games with an impressive 72-61 wins against Albany, which had come in winners of 3 straight and 6 of 8 overall. The Black Bears closed the first half on a 15-3 run behind Kaimondre Owes, who had a team-high 20. Sean McNally added 14 and 6 rebounds. Will Harris tallied 20 and 8 rebounds for Albany.

Jay Greene poured in a team-high 17 points, dished our 4 assists and did not turn the ball over in 37 minutes at the point guard position to pace UMBC to a 69-60 win in a rematch of last season's America East Championship game. Darryl Proctor added a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds help the Retrievers even their conference mark at 2-2. Hartford, which fell to 2-2, was led by Morgan Sabia, who scored a game-high 18.

In non-conference action, New Hampshire grabbed its fourth win in its last five with a 68-59 win over instate-rival Darmouth. Tyrone Conley had 17 points, while Tyrece Gibbs added 15 for the Wildcats. Dane DiLegro had 7 points and pulled down 13 boards.
